Ennis CARES

Born as a response to community needs identified during the COVID-19 pandemic, Ennis CARES serves our Community by providing Assistance and Resources through Engagement and Services while focusing on long term solutions for people and families in need. Our goal is to promote the well-being of our community by serving as a local nonemergency resource hub to improve the lives of our fellow Ennis citizens through collaboration with local programs and organizations and by bridging the gap of needs not currently being met. We are passionate about serving our Ennis community and serving it well. As a resource, an advocate, & a friend, we face life’s challenges together because Ennis CARES!

Please note that Ennis CARES staff is out of the office regularly, serving the community. Guests are seen by appointment only and voicemail left may be returned the following business day.  

Some of the services we provide to clients within the Ennis ISD boundaries include the following:

• Case management for community members experiencing homelessness
  • access to clean clothes and / or laundry service
  • access to an address to receive mail
  • access to AA, NA, or other court ordered classes
  • assistance in retrieving documents needed to obtain ID
  • assistance with applications for indigent healthcare, jobs, housing, etc.
  • referrals for transportation to shelters in other counties or to family members in other cities, as there is no emergency overnight shelter in Ennis or in Ellis County
• Errands for homebound community members, specifically the delivery of groceries or prescriptions when other options are not available
• Extreme weather center when consecutive days of extreme temperatures are in the forecast
• Referrals for financial assistance for rent, utilities, prescriptions, etc. (Financial assistance is based on donations made to the Ennis CARES 501c3)
• Resource hub: If we cannot meet a need, we work to connect community members to partnering agencies that may be able to provide clothing, food, financial assistance, transportation, mental health resources, and more.

If you would like to help care for our community, Ennis CARES accepts donations of the following frequently requested items:

• Flash Lights with batteries
• Gift cards for gas
• Laundry bags
• Large waterproof bags or backpacks
• Tarps
• Toiletries: soap, shampoo, deodorant, razors, feminine hygiene products, etc.
• Rain coats or rain ponchos
• Small first aide kits
• Seasonal items
  • summer: air-condition window units and box fans
  • winter: space heaters, new or gently used blankets, coats, gloves, etc.

Financial donations can be made directly to the Ennis CARES 501c3. Funds received are used to assist community members that live within the Ennis ISD boundaries. For more information about volunteer opportunities and to make donations, please visit www.EnnisCARES.org.
